Madeley High Street Footpath Improvements

Footway Improvements in your area – High Street, Madeley

Work will shortly be carried out on High Street, Madeley to improve the condition of the footpaths. Preparatory works commence on 29rd April for 5 days to prepare the footways for a surface treatment. The surface treatment works are due to commence on 17th May for 5 days (weather permitting).

The works will be completed for Telford and Wrekin Council by Balfour Beatty Living Places. Using specialist sub-contractor JPCS who will hand deliver information leaflets to all properties affected by the works the day before the main works commence. Further details are shown below. The full programme in this area is due be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting. Further details are shown below.

Work will be carried out between 08:00am-16:00pm on weekdays and dedicated teams will be on site to assist residents during this time to help.

How is the work completed?

Before the surface treatments start contractors will be on site to complete any patching works which are required to prepare the surface of the footpath, replacing any damaged or broken kerbs.

Immediately before the surface treatment works, any utility or drainage covers will be raised to allow for the treatment, and the surface of the footpath will be pressure washed in order to remove debris before the treatment is applied. Debris and vegetation from the surface of the footpath will also be cleared, trimming back any vegetation which has overgrown onto the footpath.

With footpath maintenance it is aimed to treat entire areas rather than single streets, including the footpaths which provide links between streets, away from the carriageway.

These works are being delivered as part of the Council’s 4 year investment programme to ‘Protect, Care and Invest to create a better borough’. Between 2020 and 2024 over £50m is being invested to keep neighbourhoods safe, clean and well connected.  The ‘Pride in our Community’ Highways Capital Programme will deliver improvements to infrastructure including roads, footpaths, parking, sustainable transport, street furniture, drains and structures. Our highways vision is to ‘Keep Telford Moving’ and in 2021/2022 we will invest £21.6m to deliver over 160 improvement schemes across the borough.
