PRESS RELEASE – 7th May 2020
Madeley Town Council and Great Dawley Town Council supports the #KindleKindness
Madeley Town Council and Great Dawley Town Council are supporting the #KindleKindness campaign with a £2,000 grant from each Town Council to help towards the purchase of Kindle-type or similar devices, complete with free library access, to help ease isolation and loneliness for their older and vulnerable residents.
The #KindleKindness is a Telford and Wrekin fundraising drive launched to ease loneliness during the Coronavirus crisis and are asking residents and businesses to come together and rally to raise £25,000 to buy enough Kindles, or similar Android tablets, to be handed out to the Women’s and Children’s Centre at The Princess Royal Hospital and residential care homes across the borough.
Madeley Town Council Councillors were unanimous in their support for this campaign, this funding will increase the number of devices and will support residents who are isolated or lonely, at this very difficult time.
Councillor Arnold England, Mayor of Madeley Town Council said ‘This is such a valuable campaign and the Town Council are very proud to support this initiative for all of our residents and will be widely used within our community’.
Great Dawley Town Council have diverted funds already earmarked for improvements to the computer suite at Dawley & Malinslee Community Library to show their support during this difficult time of isolation and loneliness, where it will have an immediate impact to those in need within the community.
Councillor Stefan Heighway, Mayor of Great Dawley said ‘The Town Council are really proud to support this and the kindles purchased with the monies will provide access to so many in our community that haven’t seen family or friends for some time. It is so important for those venerable and lonely to be provided with access to the library services at this time’.
